The Leaf Men and The Brave Good Bugs Review
The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs
Reviewed by an elementary teacher and dad.
As an elementary teacher and dad, it is a struggle to find good children's books to read out loud. Most of the children's books today are marketed towards women, and the few books marketed towards men have no depth to them. Below are five reasons why moms should get The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs for dads to read to their kids.
1. Dads will love it!
As a teacher, I've spent hours searching for great reads that are "guy" books, but that also are fantastic reads. Most books are too fluffy or too mindless. The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs book is built for dads.
2. The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs has action and adventure, but it also has feeling.
Yes, that's right! Guys do have feelings. We just want our feelings mixed in with explosions and adventure. Ok, there are no explosions in The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs, but there is a lot of action, the kind of action that let's your mind free and your imagination sore.
3. Easy-to-do voices for corny dads.
I'm a corny dad. I love the old pull my finger, and I love to tell fibs. I love to do funny voices as I read. This book is perfect for dads. The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs has a Spider Queen, Doodle Bugs, The Leaf Men, a long lost toy and an old lady.
4. It is the perfect length.
I love reading to my kids, but I can't read through some longer books in one sitting and it ruins the read aloud experience. I love my kids and reading, but I don't have all night to read. This can be read in about 15 minutes and kids are satisfied. My sons also want me to read this over and over again, so it is doable.
5. The illustrations are amazing.
The illustrations are amazing, simple enough for little kids to take in the scene, but compelling enough to get your searching through them for some of the characters that are hiding in the background.
6. Moms love it too!
My wife also loves reading The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs to our kids. She just doesn't do the voices right.
